This workshop aims to stimulate the curiosity of children about the world of recipes and specialties from all continents. Through the involvement of families (Italian and foreign), ethnic dishes will be created, both of local-regional cuisine and of national cuisine. The children will be able to view the preparation of a typical dish, subsequently make it and above all "savor" not only the taste of what they have cooked, but also the culture that each dish represents.
The role of families in this context is fundamental because they will be the bridge between gastronomic tradition and cultural tradition, coming to prepare typical dishes, and telling children about the memories of daily life related to different foods, smells, flavors.
A journey to discover the other through food.
During the workshop, videos, images and interviews will be used in order to broaden as much as possible the panorama of knowledge shared with children on the proposed countries, which will be chosen from time to time based on the origin of the users.
The first step, in fact, for the integration of foreign children and their families into the social fabric is the welcoming; making a child feel means making him/her feel involved, bearer of elements of novelty that enrich everyone and that can become the group's heritage.
At the end of each recipe, the children will be asked to graphically represent their experience, giving them the freedom to choose the theme (ingredients and preparation of the dish, life memory linked to that specific dish, tasting experience, etc.) to their preference.
At the end of the workshop, a choral initiative is planned in which all the communities represented will create a multi-ethnic buffet with the exhibit of the works of the children (drawings on the realization of the recipe, on the ingredients used, on the places of origin, on the memories told by families).
The children will have the task of telling forward this journey to discover flavors and cultures by sharing it with their families.
