Why the name Chicco di Riso?
The choice of this name is inspired by an ancient legend relating to the inventor of chess, which allows us to visualize the concept of exponential growth of the educational project behind the Intercultural Center.
In fact, the inventor asked his emperor, as compensation for the new game, for a quantity of rice equal to that which would have been obtained by placing double the rice grains of the previous one on each square of the board. The apparently modest request turned out to be on the verge of immeasurable: even starting from a single grain in the first box, the total number of grains would have been more than 18 billion billion.
The educational project Chicco di Riso
Cemea del Mezzogiorno onlus (www.cemeadelmezzogiorno.it) and the association of social promotion Replay Network (www.replaynet.eu), are the organizations that, collaborating in RTI, have the task of implementing the project CHICCO DI RISO Intercultural Center, which will be based at the Cairoli school, from December to 2020 to March 2022.
The service will make available to the reference area:
- an aggregation centre for children aged between 4 and 10 years old
- support and guidance activities for parents
- workshop activities for school pupils
- training activities for teachers
- cultural mediation activities
The aggregation center and the local services connected to it aim at activating a process of a social and cultural nature, which produces multiplicative effects. The beneficiaries to whom the project is addressed will therefore be placed in an active and participatory role, according to the principles of active education and seeking an intercultural education seen as transformative learning, which offers a method for producing and guiding the desired changes. The actions will be aimed at enhancing the different individual belongings as a collective element, to which everyone contributes and by which everyone is influenced; an open meeting space in which to discuss different experiences. All services and initiatives will focus on interculturality and will be free of charge; will be carried out within the limits of the structural capacity and in full compliance with all procedures for the protection of minors and health safety.
The aggregation centre Chicco di Riso
The aggregation centre can host up to 30 boys and girls aged from 4 to 10 years old. It is open from Monday to Friday from 16:00 to 19:00 at the premises made available by the Cairoli school in Via giordano bruno 2 (entrance from via Andrea Doria).
Attendance to all proposed activities will be free and requires registration, as well as compliance with all safety procedures on the protection of minors and on the management of the Covid-19 pandemic crisis.
For the period of suspension of the school service, from 23 December 2020 to 5 January 2021, we have moved the opening to the morning with a time frame from 8.00 to 13.00 to allow families who work or who are in a smart working situation to be able to count on a continuity of support at least for part of the day.
